Wale Adebanwi is the Rhodes Professor of Race Relations and a Fellow of St Antony's College. He was Professor in the Department of African American and African Studies at the University of California, Davis, USA until 2017 and was previously a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. Since 2016, he has been a co-editor of AFRICA: Journal of the International African Institute and was co-editor of the Journal of Contemporary African Studies until 2017.
His research and teaching have focussed on the processes of the social mobilisation of interests and power, particularly as these manifest in and through ethnicity, nationalism, race and racialisation, culture, democratic politics and social thought.
