Visiting as a Group

The Pitt Rivers Museum welcomes group visitors. Booking is required for organisations/groups of more than ten people visiting on the same day.

We charge a £3.00 admin fee per person for group visits. Some groups, such as higher education institutions, further education colleges, and schools, may be exempt from this charge. Please see below for more information.

Self-guided school groups, further education groups or non-commercial groups visiting as part of a learning programme are exempt from our administration fee.

We require a ratio of one adult to ten children under the age of 16. You may need to bring extra adults for students who require additional support, to ensure the ratio of one adult to ten children is maintained.

We recommend two hours as the optimal duration for a visit. If you would like to stay longer, please discuss with the Bookings Officer at education@prm.ox.ac.uk.

Some groups may be exempt from taught session charges. Currently this applies to state-funded special schools and UK schools taking part in University access and outreach programmes.

To prepare students for the visit you might find this Social Story for School Groups useful to share with students, parents and carers. The Museum can be busy with other school groups/visitors, so students who are noise-sensitive or struggle in crowded places may need to bring ear defenders.

Start your booking

We welcome organised group visits and require all groups to book in advance. We ask that groups book at least 2 days in advance to secure a booking. There is a £3.00 administration fee per person for all group visits, including travel agencies and tour operators, summer schools and EFL groups. We require students under 18 to be accompanied by one adult per 10 students. The maximum number of people per booking is 55 (up to 50 attendees and 5 supervisors).

We encourage museum groups for teaching and offer guided and supported group sessions. Self-guided school groups, higher education groups, further education groups or non-commercial groups visiting as part of a learning programme are exempt from our administration fee. You can enquire about your eligibility for an exemption from our administration fee using our enquiry form.
