Wednesday 30 March, 16.00 - 17.30
Rhodes House, in South Parks Road, was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in 1929. Almost 100 years later, it is undergoing a major programme of refurbishment. Whilst respecting the character of the existing Arts and Crafts building, a state-of-the-art conference centre is being created in the basement space that was once a book stack. A new residential courtyard allows an uninterrupted view of the Civil War ramparts. Some Friends will remember several Kenneth Kirkwood Study Days held in the wood-panelled Beit Rooms and more recently, an Away Day tour of the award-winning gardens.
Join us for a 'work in progress' tour, kindly led by Mat Davies, Director of Estates for The Rhodes Trust. Tea will be provided after the one-hour tour.
Booking will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Maximum 20 people. As always, we hope you will find this Away Day not only interesting but also a good way of getting to know a few Friends a little better. There will be a charge of £5 per head, to be collected on the day.
If you would like to book a place, please email Felicity Wood at felicity2wood@gmail.com with Rhodes House in the subject line and giving your name(s) and mobile number. If you would like to bring a guest, please give their name.
Please note that as this is currently a construction site, the visit is not suitable for visitors with limited mobility. Please contact Felicity if you have any questions.
